The accountability mirror challenge by David Goggins

The only way to improve yourself is to hold yourself accountable for the choices you made in your life.   This forces you to look at the things you have an influence on and take responsibility for. It frees you from any factors outside of your control. So how does this concept work and how can you apply it to your life? Like a lot of other concepts I discuss on this blog, this one is free of charge as well and very easy to start. This concept by David Goggins is another take on the affirmation exercise. Where you put post-its on the mirror of things that you are grateful for. How to start with David Goggins’s accountability mirror challenge? Stand in front of the mirror and look yourself in the eye for five minutes straight. What is going through your head? What do you think about the person you see in the mirror? Write those things down and make sure you discuss those with yourself later on. Now there are a lot of personal things you can hold yourself accountabl...

The 40% rule by David Goggins

I want to bring up another concept from David Goggins’s book: Can’t Hurt me. It’s called Remove the Governor.   So what is a governor? A governor is based in every car and what it does is it regulates all the systems, to prevent them from going into max capacity.   Why would you want to do that, you might be thinking. Well, not all systems share the same maximum load and capacity. So when restrictions are gone and the max capacity is asked, certain parts of the engine would blow up. Does the same apply to your body and mind? Yes   according to   David Goggins . He is known for his 40% rule. He is convinced our body and mind are only allowing us to tap into 40% of our potential and by removing the governor it could be way higher without damaging the engine so to say. Why does   David Goggins   believe this? The answer is simple because he experienced it. He as an immense track record to back this rule up: Joined Navy SEALS Ran and won several ultra ma...

Callus the mind by David Goggins

I’ve been reading to David Goggins’s book Can’t Hurt me and I want to discuss with you one concept that resonated with me. If you don’t know David Goggins I strongly advise you to look him up and read his book. He is a former Navy SEAL and Ultrarunner. He started as a regular guy just like you and me. And in his book he shares the concepts with you that got him through barbaric training regimes and made him the toughest man alive. The concept is called: Callus the mind. Weightlifters have it on their hands after training a while, or martial artists have them on their feet when training barefoot often. What purpose do  callus  serve? They can handle more resistance, without irritating the actual skin. It serves as a protective layer. So can you  callus your mind ? Relation to Stoicism Which reminds me a lot of the  Stoic  principle: “Voluntary Discomfort” It’s about getting comfortable with uncomfortable situations and preparing yourself for the future. He...
